After minimal training, a shop can learn how to use this robotic inspection system configured for a shopfloor application to supersede repetitive, time-consuming, high-mix gauging processes. It can then be redeployed for another application somewhere else in the facility.

Production Machining Senior Editor Lori Beckman reviews the Q-Span Automated Gauging System and how it is configured to replace manual gauging systems in machine shops, using the shop’s current validated processes and gauges. Includes a video recorded at PMTS with a short video of the system at work.

From the article: “This demo of New Scale Robotics’ automated dimensional gauging system showcases the capabilities of some of the gauges that can be integrated in a material handling system from the company. This application does bore gauging, thread gauging, and drop gauging. The gripper functions as a robotic caliper and then takes the part back to the conveyor.”
