Visitors to the International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS 2022) Sept. 12-17 in Chicago will have ample opportunity to learn about collaborative robots and automated gauging. Here are three highlights not to be missed from New Scale Robotics and Universal Robots.

1. Conference Session: Getting Started with QC Automation

How to Automate Dimensional Gauging on the Production Floor
Monday, September 12, 2022, at 11:00 – 11:55 am
Room W193-B

What processes can you automate in QC? What processes should you automate? If you’re wondering where to get started, this conference session by New Scale Robotics’ Stefan Friedrich is for you.

Using examples and calculations, Stefan will guide you through the process of choosing what to automate, what type of gauge to use, and how to get started.

Topics will include:

  • Choosing which processes to automate
  • How to automate QC using existing gauges on your shop floor
  • Building a business case and assessing return on investment

This session is recommended for quality managers with small to medium-sized manufacturing operations. No prior automation experience is needed.

2. Free robot training sessions by Universal Robots

Learn how to program a collaborative robot at IMTS. Three different hands-on training sessions each focus on commonly used programming for automation, led by a certified UR product trainer. We recommend the Pick & Place Automation session as a great intro for QC teams considering a Q-Span Workstation, and wanting to learn more about the UR robot as background.

In this session you will learn the fundamentals of programming a Pick and Place application. Upon completion of the pick and place, you will then learn how to optimize the application to achieve the highest efficiency robot operation and increase your manufacturing productivity.

No experience necessary. Seats are limited. Register with Universal Robots.

Register for free collaborative robot training sessions from Universal Robots. The Q-Span Workstation is a certified UR+ Kit, and New Scale Robotics is a certified UR System Integrator.

3. Booth Demos: Automating Micrometer, Caliper and Bore Gauge Measurements

New Scale Robotics is in Booth #135414, Quality Assurance Pavilion, East Building, Level 3.

The Q-Span Workstation for automated gauging incorporates existing manual gauges and gauging techniques to automate QC inspection in high-mix, small-batch manufacturing. Visitors to the New Scale Robotics booth can see the workstation with one Universal Robots UR3e collaborative robot using three different gauges to measure dimensions on a sample part. The robot is also outfitted with grippers to pick parts from a conveyor and sort them into pass/fail bins.

Stop by the booth to chat with our gauging specialists how this system can work with your parts, gauges and processes.
